Mejku — a combination of the Slovenian words meja (border) and kultura (culture) — is a cross-border cultural platform designed to provide an overview of cultural events and institutions in the Slovenian and Austrian region around Bad Radkersburg and Gornja Radgona.
this project was developed as part of my bachelor’s thesis, titled ‘Where communication reaches its limit: Art and cultural mediation in the border region of Bad Radkersburg/Gornja Radgona.’
the thesis explores the role of art and culture in intercultural communication, using the border region of Bad Radkersburg/Gornja Radgona as a case study. it focuses on how cultural initiatives can effectively engage young people on both sides of the border with the aim of creating a shared cross-border cultural space.
a theoretical emphasis is placed on the historical development of Bad Radkersburg, while it also outlines current cultural developments. the work is relevant to promoting cultural participation and international cooperation. in addition to theoretical analysis, expert interviews and a youth survey were conducted.
the prototype of the platform was evaluated through user-testing and feedback rounds. in order to make it appealing to a younger audience, the design is modern and uses playful elements such as illustrations.
